A tweet from Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) has already embarrassed her once but it turns out to be the gift that keeps on giving. While she claimed that she had never met with a Russian ambassador ever, it's been discovered that she did much more than that.
The original tweet read, "I've been on the Armed Services Com for 10 years. No call or meeting w/Russian ambassador. Ever. Ambassadors call members of Foreign Rel Com." She referred to the Foreign Relations Committee.

But while online sleuths almost immediately contradicted her claim in March, CNN is reporting that the senator spent an evening at the ambassador's Washington residence in 2015 for a black-tie event.
McCaskill said that the character limitations of the social media platform kept her from explaining that she meant a "one-on-one" meeting with the ambassador.
"I should've been careful about the 140 characters and given it context," McCaskill told CNN. "But it's not the first or the last time my tweets will get me in trouble."
McCaskill's tweet was a failed attempt to cast more doubt on the meeting that Attorney General Jeff Sessions had with a Russian ambassador but neglected to mention during a confirmation hearing. He later explained that it was not under his capacity as a transition team member that he met with the ambassador but as a senator.
