Former Los Angeles Mayor and California gubernatorial candidate Antonio Villaraigosa (D) on Sunday told MSNBC's Hugh Hewitt he anticipates Sen. Kamala Harris will be "knocking on doors in Iowa," signaling the senator's potential presidential run in 2020.
"Has she got a stake in this [California's] governor's race?" Hewitt asked.
"Well, not yet," Villaraigosa said with hesitation. "I hope she will support my candidacy, but as you say, she is a great candidate. She's going to be knocking on doors in Iowa, I expect. But in any case, I'm focused on this race, not the presidential race."
Putting out feelers
Last month, Harris met with Clinton mega-donors in the Hamptons.
“Kamala is the big Democratic star right now, at a time when they badly need a star. She’s coming to the Hamptons to meet key people as she takes a national stage, and expands her influence and ambitions," a Democratic insider told Page Six last month.
