Two women suspected of trying to rob a bank in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains while dressed as nuns have been charged with robbing two New Jersey banks, WFMZ-TV reported.
The FBI said Swahilys Pedraza Rodriguez, 19, and Melisa Aquino Arias, 23, are suspected of trying to rob a Citizens Bank in Tannersville, Pennsylvania, on Aug. 28, the station reported.
During that attempted heist, two would-be robbers were dressed as nuns — and one of them even wielded a pistol, WFMZ said. But they ran off without any money after an alarm was triggered, the station added.
The pair are charged with robbing banks in Garfield on Sept. 27, and Teaneck, New Jersey, while wearing head scarves, WFMZ reported. Rodriquez and Arias were arrested after the Teaneck bank robbery Sunday, the station said.
They appeared before a judge in Newark, New Jersey, on Monday, WFMZ said, adding that the women's attorneys didn't immediately return messages Tuesday.
Ferhad Chohan, who works in a store near the attempted Citizens Bank heist, told KYW-TV it's "unbelievable" that the world we live in "can be so twisted."
