Trump Jr. continues Twitter tirade against Bannon after accusations of treason

Donald Trump Jr. continued a tirade of tweets excoriating Steve Bannon for comments that accused him of treason for meeting with Russians before the 2016 election.

What did Trump Jr. say?

"Steve had the honor of working in the White House & serving the country," Trump Jr. tweeted. "Unfortunately, he squandered that privilege & turned that opportunity into a nightmare of backstabbing, harassing, leaking, lying & undermining the President."

"Steve is not a strategist, he is an opportunist," he concluded.

In an earlier series of tweets, Trump Jr. retweeted others' criticisms of Bannon.

"Steve Bannon has Steve Bannon's best interests at heart," one read. "Nothing I despise more than jealous disloyalty."

Another Trump stalwart said, "My response is, no one voted for Bannon. The guy I voted for is delivering in spades. For me, the rest is noise."

"Andrew Breitbart would be ashamed of the division and lies Steve Bannon is spreading!" he added, referring to the deceased conservative icon who lent his name to the news website that Bannon is now in charge of.

What did Bannon say?

"Even if you thought that this was not treasonous, or unpatriotic, or bad s**t, and I happen to think it’s all of that, you should have called the FBI immediately," Bannon is quoted as saying in "Fire and Fury," a book about political intrigue at the White House.

Is the book accurate?

"Fire and Fury" has been quoted extensively on social media for its revealing and damaging snippets about the Trump administration, but the accuracy and authenticity of the reporting has been questioned. One former Trump aide said that the spirit of the book was correct, but many of the anecdotes fell short of total accuracy.
