Jeffrey Toobin says Trump is 'insane' for offering this solution for school shootings
February 21, 2018
CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin said that it was "insane" to advocate that teachers be allowed to carry guns in order to deter school shootings.
Here's the segment from CNN:
Here's what he said:
"Personally, I'm pro-rancor. I'm pro-vitriol. I am pro-someone doing something about this, rather than being polite when you hear the president of the United States say the answer is to give every teacher in America a gun," he said.
"That is insane," he added emphatically. "That is an insane idea."
"Ask Mark Barden, one of the fathers, who lost a child in Sandy Hook, whose wife is a teacher," he added.
"I mean seriously did anybody go to school here?" he continued. "Does anybody remember their teachers? Do you think we should give all of them guns? I mean, do you think they want guns?"
"What kind of country do we live in when we're talking about giving every teacher in America a gun?" he reiterated.
"And that's a solution to this problem?" he asked rhetorically.
President Donald Trump offered the opinion Wednesday that having teachers armed might prevent some school shootings. The Broward County sheriff announced Tuesday that they would be arming deputies in schools in the wake of the deadly shooting last week at Marjory Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
