Hogg goes after McCain: 'Why do you take so much money from the NRA?

Media darling and Parkland student activist David Hogg confronted Senator John McCain via Twitter on Friday.

In response to an unrelated tweet from McCain discussing an infrastructure project for the state of Arizona, Hogg wrote: "Why do you take so much money from the NRA?"

Over the course of his career, the six-term senator has received over $7.7 million from the National Rifle Association, more than any other member of Congress. Senator McCain has not yet responded to Hogg's tweet; he is currently fighting a deadly type of brain cancer.

Senator McCain is also a former prisoner of war, Vietnam veteran, 2008 Republican nominee for President of the United States, and was appointed chairman of the Senate Armed Services committee in 2015.

A number of students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida have been part of a media blitz asking for tougher gun control laws. Hogg has been one of the most outspoken leaders of the campaign.

Hogg filled the headlines for the past few days after feuding with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, resulting in some advertisers pulling their ads from her show. Ingraham had mocked the student for complaining about not yet being accepted into his preferred colleges; the host later apologized for her comments.

The student has also gained recent attention from conducting profanity-laced interviews, making a noteworthy gesture at the DC March For Our Lives rally, and bragging about hanging up during a call with the White House.
