Samantha Bee apologizes for insult to Ivanka Trump - but advertisers are still fleeing

Liberal comedian Samantha Bee apologized Thursday for a very explicit epithet she used to attack Ivanka Trump in order to criticize President Trump's policies, and it may have to do with advertisers fleeing her cable show.

Here's what Bee said

Bee tweeted an apology Thursday after a public uproar over her very pointed insult to the president's daughter.

"I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night," Bee tweeted.

"It was inappropriate and inexcusable," she added. "I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it."

Bee hosts a comedy show on TBS, and advertisers began dropping the show after the public outrage over her comments.

"Thank you to those who reached out regarding our sponsorship of Full Frontal," tweeted the account for "AutoTrader."

"The comments expressed by Samantha Bee were offensive and unacceptable and do not reflect the views of our company," they added. "As a result, we have suspended our sponsorship of Full Frontal with Samantha Bee."

State Farm insurance also suspended their ads on Bee's show.

"We have asked TBS to suspend our advertising in the program and are reviewing any future placements," the company said in a statement. "We constantly review programs to ensure alignment to our programming guidelines and brand values."

Here's a CNN news video about Bee's comments:

"Disgusting comments"

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders criticized Bee's comments Thursday.

“Her disgusting comments and show are not fit for broadcast," she said, "and executives at Time Warner and TBS must demonstrate that such explicit profanity about female members of this administration will not be condoned on its network."
