Kimberly Guilfoyle threatens to sue liberal news outlet - here's why

Kimberly Guilfoyle cut ties with Fox News to join a pro-Trump political committee. A Huffington Post journalist is claiming that she threatened to sue him over his report that she was dismissed from the company instead of voluntarily leaving. (Image Source: YouTube screenshot)

A reporter for the Huffington Post says that he received a threat of legal action from a firm representing former Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle.

Here's what happened

On Friday, reports arose that Guilfoyle, a co-host of "The Five," was leaving Fox News in order to join a political committee supporting the agenda of President Donald Trump. Huffington Post reporter Yashar Ali published an article claiming that she had not left voluntarily, citing three anonymous sources.

On Monday, Ali tweeted that a law firm representing Guilfoyle had contacted him and the Huffington Post and threatened to sue them both over the story.

"Kimberly Guilfoyle has retained the law firm of Clare Locke & sent a threatening legal notice to HuffPost and me," Ali tweeted.

"Saying that my story had false and defamatory claims and that if the story wasn’t retracted it would constitute evidence of 'actual malice.'"

"The story is accurate," he added defiantly in a parenthetical, apparently indicating that they were not going to retract the story.

Fox News had released a statement about the story on Friday. It was very curt. “Fox News has parted ways with Kimberly Guilfoyle,” the statement read.

'Firmly standing with President Trump'

Guilfoyle also confirmed Tuesday on Twitter that she was joining the pro-Trump political committee.

"Today I have a bitter-sweet announcement," she tweeted. "I’ve decided to leave Fox News Channel and dedicate myself full time to joining America First as Vice Chairwoman, campaigning across the country and firmly standing with President Trump."

"I will miss my Fox family," she added. "I thank Fox for the opportunities it has provided me. I thank all the talented producers, staff, and above all I thank the best fans out there."

Guilfoyle is also dating the president's son, Donald Trump Jr., who is divorcing from his wife Vanessa.
