Barbra Streisand says female Trump voters 'don't believe enough in their own thoughts

Singer Barbra Streisand has been vocal about her liberal views for years. But in a recent interview promoting her new anti-Trump album, "Walls," she made the assertion that women who voted for President Donald Trump "don't believe enough in their own thoughts."

Speaking to Weekend magazine, Streisand questioned how female voters could cast a ballot for a man with pro-life views, particularly Trump.

"It's a terribly complex thing," the 76-year-old singer explained. "A lot of women vote the way their husbands vote; they don't believe enough in their own thoughts."

Streisand went on to give another theory as to why so many women voted for Trump in 2016, saying, "Maybe that woman [Hillary Clinton] who's so articulate, so experienced and so fit for the presidency was too intimidating."

"Walls" is a compilation of politically charged songs written by Streisand herself. She acknowledged to Weekend that there's a lot of anger in the lyrics.

"I believe in truth and that if I'm truthful in what I'm singing about that comes across as being passionately upset with what is happening to my country," she said.

"I love my country and it's painful to see democracy being assaulted, institutions being assaulted and women being assaulted," Streisand continued, directing her attention to the recent confirmation of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who she sees as a threat to abortion rights.

"Can you imagine?" the singer asked. "There's a war between people who want to live in the future and look forward to the future, and people who want to live in the past. Imagine, women who for 40-something years have had the right to choose now perhaps won't."

What about the food cravings?

Fox News reported that Streisand even blamed her recent food cravings on Trump.

"The president made me anxious and hungry for pancakes," she said. "Buckwheat pancakes. I had to put butter on them and maple syrup to ease the pain."

Streisand's lead single on her new album is titled, "Don't Lie to Me," and is aimed at the president. The lyrics of chorus are, "How do you sleep when the world keeps turning?/All that we built has come undone/How do you sleep when the world is burning?/Everyone answers to someone."
