Man on crime spree dressed as woman attempts to rob store — but clerk takes him down with handgun

A man dressed up as a woman reportedly attempted to rob a Columbia, South Carolina, store on Friday night, but a good guy with a gun stopped the suspect.

The man was reportedly one-half of a duo in a crime spree that had spanned several hours.

What are the details?

According to a report by WLTX-TV, a man – later identified as Demetrius Lamar Jackson — entered a Boost Mobile store Friday evening.

An armed Jackson was reportedly dressed in women's clothing and wore a wig to conceal his appearance further when he attempted to rob the store.

A quick-thinking clerk, however, thwarted the suspect's plans and pulled out a handgun.

The clerk didn't hesitate to fire multiple rounds at the suspect, who fled from the scene after engaging in a brief shootout.

The suspect left the property in a black Nissan Maxima, and reportedly drove to a nearby gas station, where a woman driving a 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe picked him up and took him to a local hospital.

Doctors treated Jackson for gunshot wounds to the stomach, the station reported. He is in stable condition.

The woman who picked Jackson up was identified as Nautica Morgan. The vehicle was reportedly stolen from a Walgreens in Georgetown, South Carolina, Friday afternoon.

Witnesses of the incident told police that Morgan was dropped off at the Walgreens in a black Nissan. WIS-TV reported that the Nissan Maxima was also a stolen vehicle.

The victim of the Walgreens carjacking reported that Morgan was armed, and had pulled out a handgun, demanding the victim exit the vehicle.

What else?

Both Jackson, 29, and Morgan, 22, were taken into custody in Columbia in connection with the incidents.

A Saturday Facebook post from the Georgetown Police Department read:

Morgan took the black male to Richland Memorial Hospital in Richland County, where he was treated for gunshot wounds to the stomach and is in stable condition. The black male has been identified as Demetrius Lamar Jackson. Both vehicles have been recovered by the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.
