Atlanta college drops mask mandate after 2 weeks, will keep social distancing and temperature checks

An Atlanta college that reinstated a mask mandate has ended it after its scheduled two-week implementation but strangely will keep several of its COVID-era protocols in place.

Morris Brown College imposed a mask mandate on August 21, 2023, and announced the rule for the start of the fall semester on its social media pages.

“Effective immediately, Morris Brown College has reinstated its COVID-19 mask mandate due to reports of positive cases among students in the Atlanta University Center,” the announcement read.

The school also sent a letter informing staff and students of two-week protocols.

“We prioritize your safety and seek your cooperation in preventing another pandemic,” the college wrote.

The school kept its promise of a two-week timeline, the Epoch Times reported. However, college President Dr. Kevin James told Newsweek in an email that the school will "still have several safety protocols in place."

Despite the end of masking, students and employees will be subject to temperature checks upon arrival at the campus, must maintain social distancing, and must isolate for five days if they test positive for COVID-19. Those who test positive will have to participate in contact tracing, as well.

The no-fun policy continued with a declaration that parties and large student events would also be banned from campus.

Morris Brown College was one of a few schools with mask requirements as mandates have sporadically popped up nationwide.

An elementary school in D.C. recently informed parents that some students would be mandated to wear masks at school for a 10-day period after at least three students tested positive for COVID-19.

At least five U.S. hospitals returned to mask mandates predominantly due to a recent rise in positive tests from staff. This included hospitals in New York, Boston, and California.

Backlash to these mandates even caused CNN to question Anthony Fauci regarding his position on efficacy, confronting the doctor with a recent study that showed little effect from masks.

A spokesperson for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told the Epoch Times in early September 2023 that hospitalizations remained low in “97 percent of the country" and said that the CDC had not conducted any discussions about returning to mask mandates.
