Chicago's O'Hare airport still packed with illegal immigrants despite some retreating to Venezuela over lack of amenities

Hundreds of illegal immigrants per day are still arriving at Chicago's O'Hare airport with reports of disease outbreaks at the overly crammed bus terminal.

The historic Chicago airport is just one of the locations dealing with an influx of over 20,000 illegal immigrants who have arrived since the summer of 2022. The problem is exacerbated by the nearly 70,000 homeless in the city, which has local leaders finally reconsidering Chicago's status as a sanctuary city, Fox News reported.

Protesters took over a city council meeting in early November 2023 over alleged attempts by city officials to block a referendum that would allow residents to vote on whether Chicago should keep its sanctuary city status. Residents also expressed frustrations over the city spending millions of taxpayer dollars to provide shelter and other services to migrants.

At the same time, little has been done to stop the arrival of illegal immigrants at O'Hare airport, which has been "overflowing with illegal aliens," according to the Oversight Project.

"The bus stop at O’Hare is crammed full of illegal aliens. Sources tell us over 600/day with reports of disease outbreak, particularly Scabies. Bus terminal essentially not suitable for American passengers," the legal organization wrote on X.

"They don't have places to put them. They're sleeping on the ground, they're behind black, little makeshift walls, there's clearly not even enough logistical space. It's an absolute mess," said investigative reporter Mike Howell.

"It's a disaster. It reeks, it's unsanitary, it's very unfortunate this is what it has come to," he added.

Handlers also reportedly refused to provide information regarding which organization they work for.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Tribune reported that some migrants have begun fleeing back to their native country, particularly Venezuela, due to lack of work permits and cold weather.

"How many more months of living in the streets will it take? No, no more. It’s better that I leave. At least I have my mother back home," one illegal migrant told the outlet.

"We just want to be home," he continued. "If we’re going to be sleeping in the streets here, we’d rather be sleeping in the streets over there."

The outlet noted that after a few cold days in Chicago, the same man decided to contact a Catholic charity for plane tickets to a border town so he could return to Venezuela. While others are reportedly doing the same, some are still hoping for placements in hotels and to get access to public services and cash assistance.
