Concealed carrier holds attempted murder suspect at gunpoint until cops arrive; suspect allegedly stabbed motorist, broke car's windows with nunchucks

A concealed carrier held an attempted murder suspect at gunpoint until police arrived on the scene Wednesday in Wichita, Kansas, the Hays Post reported.

What happened?

Investigators said 38-year-old Julian Gonzalez intentionally used his white 2010 Hyundai Elantra to hit a gray 2018 Chevrolet Cruz at West Murdock and North West Streets around 6 p.m., the Post said.

Gonzalez then exited his vehicle and began breaking the Chevy's windows with nunchucks, the paper added.

A 30-year-old man, a 28-year-old woman, a 4-year-old girl, and a 5-year-old boy were inside the Chevy Cruz, and the two adults began getting the children out of the vehicle, the Post said.

With that, Gonzalez began stabbing the 30-year-old man in the lower body, Officer Chad Ditch told the paper.

Witnesses intervene

Two witnesses at the scene intervened, the Post said.

One witness drove her vehicle at Gonzalez, which led to him disengaging, the paper said, adding that another witness carrying a concealed firearm held Gonzalez at gunpoint until officers arrived on the scene.

Two people subdued Gonzalez while others gave first aid to the stabbing victim, Ditch told the Wichita Eagle. One passerby used a belt and a shirt as a tourniquet in a possibly lifesaving move, KAKE-TV said in its video report.

According to the Post, the woman suffered minor cuts while exiting the Chevy Cruz. KAKE noted that the children weren't hurt.

All the victims, as well as the suspect, were taken to a hospital for treatment, the Post reported.

What happened to Gonzales?

Gonzalez has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, four counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and two counts each of aggravated endangering of a child and criminal damage to property, Sedgwick County Jail records indicate. His total bond is $251,000, jail records say.

Gonzalez has a prior aggravated battery conviction, KAKE reported, citing Kansas Department of Corrections records.

KAKE in its video report said the parties involved in the incident know each other and had been arguing "all week."
