Convicted sexual predator sues condiment company for misleading labels on mustard packets

A convicted sexual predator has decided to represent himself from prison in a civil lawsuit against a condiment company that he claims put out false and deceptive advertising on the labeling of its mustard packets.

David Lettieri, who is locked up at Northeast Ohio Correctional Center, has claimed that although the ingredients used in the mustard produced by Four-In-One are displayed, there is not enough nutritional information on the packet for "custumers." He is seeking $450,000 in damages, according to Fox News.

The development comes as Lettieri is still waiting to be sentenced for enticement of a minor. The charge carries a minimum penalty of 10 years behind bars.

Lettieri said that the listed ingredients of the mustard are distilled vinegar, mustard seed, salt, turmeric, paprika, spices, and flavoring. However, his complaint, which was sent to the federal court of the Northern District of Ohio, indicated he does not know what these "spices" and "flavoring" are. He also mentioned he "doesn't know what turmeric is."

"The plaintiff under belief that mustard seed has a type of carbohydrate that has calories in it," Lettieri wrote in a document filed on August 25. "The plaintiff knows salt is in sodium which has nutrition facts for a proper diet."

However, this is not the first time Lettieri has filed a lawsuit since his incarceration. The report said he has filed "at least two dozen lawsuits" specifically aimed at federal agents and challenging the reasons for his arrest.

District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo said, "Lettieri is strongly cautioned that if he continues to file motions or other documents in this matter, he may be subject to sanctions, including, but not limited to, a filing injunction and fines."

The Department of Justice released a statement earlier this year, detailing how Lettieri was arrested for traveling 200 miles from his home in Broome County, New York, to meet a 13-year-old girl in Wyoming County for sex in a park. However, no sexual activity took place between Lettieri and the victim.

"Subsequent investigation recovered communications between Lettieri and the victim, including photos of the victim on Lettieri’s phone. Investigators also searched Lettieri’s Facebook account and recovered conversations between Lettieri, the Victim, and the Victim’s sister, which were sexual in nature. The Victim’s age was also revealed during the conversations."

The conversations consisted of Lettieri asking the child for sexual photos. The conversations apparently extended to Lettieri and the victim's sister, too.

When Lettieri spoke to FBI agents about the incident, he said he knew the girl and her age. But he claimed that he did not intend to have sex with her and that he wanted to meet her to "talk some sense into her" and "tell her that she was too young to have sex or communicate with men online."

A jury convicted Lettieri of the federal charge in June.
