UPDATE: Trump and others indicted in connection with Georgia 2020 election probe

UPDATE posted at 11:30 PM EST:

Former President Donald Trump and a more than a dozen other individuals have been indicted in connection with a Georgia 2020 election-related probe. Aside from Trump, some of the other figures named in the indictment include Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows, and Jenna Ellis.

"Defendant Donald John Trump lost the United States presidential election held on November 3, 2020. One of the states he lost was Georgia. Trump and the other Defendants charged in this Indictment refused to accept that Trump lost, and they knowingly and willfully joined a conspiracy to unlawfully change the outcome of the election in favor of Trump. That conspiracy contained a common plan and purpose to commit two or more acts of racketeering activity in Fulton County, Georgia, elsewhere in the State of Georgia, and in other states," the introduction to the document alleges.

Reports indicate that a grand jury has handed up an indictment pertaining to a Peach State prosecutor's probe regarding former President Donald Trump and allies and the 2020 presidential election. Reports indicate that it is not clear who is being charged.

The news comes as Trump has been dominating the GOP presidential primary pack as he seeks to clinch the GOP presidential nomination for a third consecutive presidential election cycle.

The Trump campaign released a scathing statement accusing Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis of attempting to engage in election interference.

"Like Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, Deranged Jack Smith, and New York AG Letitia James, Fulton County, GA's radical Democrat District Attorney Fani Willis is a rabid partisan who is campaigning and fundraising on a platform of prosecuting President Trump through these bogus indictments. Ripping a page from Crooked Joe Biden’s playbook, Willis has strategically stalled her investigation to try and maximally interfere with the 2024 presidential race and damage the dominant Trump campaign. All of these corrupt Democrat attempts will fail," the Trump campaign statement reads in part.

"These activities by Democrat leaders constitute a grave threat to American democracy and are direct attempts to deprive the American people of their rightful choice to cast their vote for President. Call it election interference or election manipulation—it is a dangerous effort by the ruling class to suppress the choice of the people. It is un-American and wrong," the statement asserts. "They are taking away President Trump’s First Amendment right to free speech, and the right to challenge a rigged and stolen election that the Democrats do all the time. The ones who should be prosecuted are the ones who created the corruption."
