A California jury said that entertainer Katy Perry and her team copied a portion of a Christian rapper's song for her hit 2013 song, "Dark Horse."

What are the details?

According to The Associated Press, Perry and her team copied a rhythmic loop of 2009's "Joyful Noise" when writing her 2013 song, "Dark Horse."

The lawsuit brought against Perry by "Joyful Noise" writers Flame (real name Marcus Grey), Lecrae, Emmanuel Lambert, and Chike Ojukwu, insisted that neither Perry nor her team received permission to use or sample the loop.

Perry and her team insisted that "Dark Horse" did not steal from "Joyful Noise."

Last week, Perry lawyer Christine Lepera told the jury that the songs are similar because they are "basic building blocks of music."

"They're trying to own basic building blocks of music, the alphabet of music that should be available to everyone," Lepera insisted during Thursday arguments.

In addition to holding Perry liable, others involved with the production of the hit song are named in the lawsuit, which was originally filed in 2014. The AP reported that "all six songwriters and all four corporations that released and distributed the songs were liable," including famed producer Dr. Luke and Capitol Records.

The jury will now decide how much Perry and company owe the defendants in damages.

According to the outlet, "Dark Horse" spent four weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 in 2014. Perry also earned a Grammy nod for the song. She also performed it during the 2015 Super Bowl halftime show.

Perry's camp has yet to issue a statement as to whether she plans to appeal the decision.

Perry, 34, began her music career as a Christian artist.
