Left-wing NJ Gov. Phil Murphy yells 'It's my money!' to crowd, reportedly about taxpayer-funded school development project
May 08, 2023
New Jersey's left-wing Gov. Phil Murphy hollered, "It's my money!" to a crowd reportedly regarding a taxpayer-funded school development project — a public pronouncement that flew far under the media radar late last month.
What are the details?
Murphy came to the New Jersey town of West New York on April 29 to support Democrat Albio Sires for mayor. Sires in January ended his 10-year run as a U.S. House member for the state, and he was mayor of West New York before then. West New York is directly across the Hudson River from Manhattan.
Sires' team in March announced his desire for a new middle school in town, the Hudson County View reported. The New Jersey Schools Development Authority approved the project, and Sires' team said the state allocated $65 million toward it, the outlet added.
During his speech backing Sires, Murphy said the funding for the school project is "my money," the Hudson County View reported in a separate story: ”Remember one thing when anyone says otherwise; tell ’em Murphy said the following: It’s my money, and that’s how it’s gonna be spent!”
““IT’S MY MONEY!”

Remember when Phil Murphy said, “If taxes are your issue, we’re probably not your state”? You were thinking it couldn’t get any worse, right?? Well, it just did. 'King Philip strikes again'
Former state Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli — who lost to Murphy for governor in a tight 2021 race — took issue with Murphy's words.
Besides his above tweet, Ciattarelli on Tuesday tweeted, "King Philip strikes again. Now he said our tax dollars are 'his money.' Not a joke, Murphy said the state budget is, 'my money & that’s how it’s going to be spent.' Who says that? Let’s give Republicans control of the legislature so we can stop Murphy from spending OUR money!"

Republican state Senator Ed Durr said in a statement that "this slush fund mentality that’s shared by Governor Murphy and the Democrat insiders who have ruled the Legislature for two decades is exactly why New Jersey has the highest tax burden in the nation for families and businesses,” the Hudson County View added.
West New York Public Affairs Commissioner Cosmo Cirillo — who's also running for mayor of West New York — told the outlet, “It’s not Murphy’s money, it’s our money. The people’s money. I have knocked on thousands of doors throughout this campaign, unlike my main opponent."
