Mother, 9-year-old daughter killed in horrific axe murder; relative arrested

A mother and 9-year-old daughter were found dead in their home, allegedly bludgeoned to death with an axe by a family member, WNBC reported.

"She said she wanted him out he says he would leave before the end of the month," family member Atasha Scott told WABC.

"But he didn't; he didn't leave. He murdered them."

Police arrested 44-year-old Everoy J. Morrison in Maryland hours after the grisly discovery of the bodies of 45-year-old Keisha Morrison and her 9-year-old daughter Kelsey in their home in Roselle, New Jersey.

Scott said Everoy Morrison killed his sister-in-law and his niece with an axe and then fled in Keisha's car, according to WABC.

"On the floor, it seemed like somebody was trying to clean up blood, like it was swirled around," Scott told WNBC.

Scott added that Everoy Morrison had recently been asked to leave the home after living there for two years in the basement because he was "down on his luck." Scott declined to provide specifics, saying simply that Keisha and the girls were "uncomfortable" with him being in the home.

Scott says Morrison, after bludgeoning Keisha and Kelsey to death with an axe, wrapped their bodies in sheets, and stuffed them under his niece's bed.

Gary Morrison, the husband and father of the victims, reportedly raced home after receiving a call from his older daughters. His older girls told him that when they woke up, they discovered blood on the walls of little Kelsey's bedroom. The older girls reportedly hid in fear in another room while their uncle was upstairs.

On arriving, Gary Morrison discovered the bodies of his wife and daughter as well as a bloody axe under a mattress.

Everoy Morrison is Gary Morrison's half-brother, according to Inside Edition.

Police arrested Everoy Morrison hours later in Maryland, apparently driving Keisha's BMW. He is being held at Baltimore County Detention Center on stolen vehicle charges. He is awaiting extradition to New Jersey, where no charges have yet been filed in the double homicide.

"It's heartbreaking, who does that to a family, period, but to a baby girl who's defenseless, I'm in the military so it's hard to see this, I will never ever get used to having to face something like this," a neighbor called Rosie told the outlet.

Kelsey's 10th birthday would have been Sunday.
