Notable Christian songwriter says he's no longer a believer: 'I'm genuinely losing my faith ... and it doesn't bother me'

Marty Sampson also said Christianity 'just seems to me like another religion'

On the heels of "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" author Joshua Harris renouncing his Christian faith last month, another notable figure in the church also is saying he no longer believes Christianity.

Marty Sampson — an Australian worship music songwriter known for his work with Hillsong — said, "All I know is what's true to me right now, and Christianity just seems to me like another religion at this point."

Sampson wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post that "I'm genuinely losing my faith...and it doesn't bother me...like, what bothers me now is nothing...I am so happy now, so at peace with the world.. it's crazy." It also appears he's cleared his Instagram account of all posts.

Sampson added, "How many preachers fall? Many. No one talks about it. How many miracles happen. Not many. No one talks about it. Why is the Bible full of contradictions? No one talks about it. How can God be love yet send 4 billion people to a place, all coz they don't believe? No one talks about it. Christians can be the most [judgmental] people on the planet — they can also be some of the most beautiful and loving people...but it's not for me. I am not in anymore."

Sampson also wrote that he wants "genuine truth."

"Not the 'I just believe it' kind of truth. Science keeps piercing the truth of every religion. Lots of things help people change their lives, not just one version of God ... Unfollow if you want, I've never been about living my life for others."

Sampson concluded his post with the following: "Love and forgive absolutely. Be kind absolutely. Be generous and do good to others absolutely. Some things are good no matter what you believe. Let the rain fall, the sun will come up tomorrow."

Not to put too fine a point on it, but the Christian Post reported that Sampson's announcement was accompanied by an image of the biblical Samson pulling down the pillars of the Philistine temple:

Here's a clip of Sampson singing "Depths":

What are others saying?

John Mason — founder of the God First, Life Second movement — said Sampson's repudiation of Christianity underscores that "our minds are directly related to our spiritual position."

"We see men like Marty Sampson of Hillsong openly mocking the faith because he does not have a mind set on the Spirit, but the flesh," Mason added on Twitter. "Our minds our renewed by the sound doctrine of Script and the true knowledge of Christ."

"When sound [biblical] theology is neglected for an American, spiritualized, cultural-friendly replacement, exposure to that theology will naturally turn away a mind, heart & soul that has never submitted to that eternal truth. In other words, the falling away is the right response," he continued. "The good news is, by God's grace, he and others still have an opportunity to believe in Christ through the truth of the gospel, be disciplined and trust fully in God's Word with the help of the Spirit. We should pray that someone will talk alongside them and show them the truth."

What else?

In July, Joshua Harris, noted author and former pastor, renounced his faith, apologized to the LGBTQ community, and also said his 21-year marriage is over.

Harris revealed on Instagram that he had "undergone a massive shift in regard to my faith in Jesus. The popular phrase for this is 'deconstruction,' the biblical phrase is 'falling away.' By all measurements that I have for defining a Christian, I am not a Christian."

Just last week Harris emerged again as he was photographed attending a Pride Parade in Vancouver, British Columbia.
