One Million Moms says Whole Foods is exploiting children by sponsoring Drag Queen Story Hour
August 09, 2019
The organization says the retailer is 'indoctrinating children into transgenderism and homosexuality'
One Million Moms has launched a campaign to boycott Whole Foods Market over what the group says is the company's complicity in exploiting children by sponsoring Drag Queen Story Hour.
What are the details?
Christian advocacy group One Million Moms — a division of the American Family Association — is encouraging Whole Foods Market shoppers to boycott the store because it sponsors and endorses Drag Queen Story Hour.
The group said the company is a "retailer that once promoted organics and clean food," but is now "exploiting America's children to be 'groomed' by drag queens."
A Whole Foods Market in Atlanta helped sponsor the city's Drag Queen Story Hour in June. Other sponsors of the June event included the NBA's Atlanta Hawks and the NFL's Atlanta Falcons.
One Million Moms launched a petition prompting shoppers to boycott the store until it announced it would no longer support Drag Queen Story Hour. The group also warned that anyone who shops at the Texas-based company endorses "child exploitation."
"If you shop at Whole Foods Market, you are also supporting child exploitation, which this corporation apparently contributes to and endorses," a portion of the campaign announcement reads.
The petition, which was created earlier in August and shared on social media, demands that Whole Foods Market stop supporting Drag Queen Story Hour.
A portion of the petition reads, "I will not shop at Whole Foods Market as long as your company is supporting Drag Queen Story Hour. I find it irresponsible that your company is exploiting America's children to be 'groomed' by drag queens in hopes to indoctrinate children into transgenderism and homosexuality."
The petition added, "To satisfy a few customers, Whole Foods Market is pushing a majority of conservative families to your competitors. I urge your company to stop attempting to normalize this lifestyle and cancel sponsorship of Drag Queen Story Hour immediately."
At the time of this writing, the petition has received more than 10,000 supporters' signatures.
Anything else?
On Thursday, Drag Queen Story Hour took center stage in the news once again — this time, after a drag queen at an event taught young children how to "twerk." The incident reportedly took place in Devon, England, and was filmed and shared to the internet.
"Twerking" is a provocative dance move that involves vigorous shaking of one's backside.
The drag queen in question — who refers to herself as "Mama G" — can be heard encouraging children to learn how to do the dance.
"Does anybody in this room know how to twerk?" she can be heard asking the crowd, which was held at a local library.
"All you need to do is you just need to stand with your feet sort of shoulder-width apart like so … and then you crouch down in this sort of position so you're bum's sticking out ... And then you just move your bum up and down like that. And that's twerking," she continued.
