'Your job is to listen to me' — Meghan McCain rips into Joy Behar over illegal immigration

Even the audience got suddenly very silent during the debate

Meghan McCain and Joy Behar got into a heated debate on "The View" over immigration and the audience quickly grew silent after one snarky quip.

McCain pointed out that the previous administration had said there was a crisis at the border even with lower numbers, in order to combat arguments that there wasn't really a problem at the border.

"He ran meat and potatoes on the economy and immigration," McCain said of President Donald Trump, "he has not fulfilled some of the promises he has made."

"This is a hardline issue for people who live in border states," McCain explained, "many friends of mine, this is the number one and only issue, and if we sit here and act like there isn't a crisis, that it's crazy people in border states that think it's a crisis, that is a winning ticket for Trump going forward."

Behar argued that there needed to be aid to some Latin American countries in order to provide security there and take away the push factor drawing migrants north.

"Keep them there happy," Behar explained. "Give them a house, give them food, help them, help their children..."

"Give a Nicaraguan a house?" McCain interrupted. "Well, we've had a bunch of liberal guests who do not want to send in aid at all..."

"Hold on, I've listened to you, just let me finish," Behar snapped back.

"Yeah, well, part of your job is to listen to me!" McCain laughed dismissively.

Behar did not appear pleased at the snarky shot at her expense.

"I'm just saying," added McCain.

Whoopi Goldberg took over the conversation to steer away from the obvious hostility between McCain and Behar.

On Monday President Donald Trump was dealt a blow in federal court when his policy of returning non-Mexican asylum-seekers to Mexico was struck down by a California judge.
