President Trump to start the engines at Daytona 500 — and Fox News report says he'll take a lap in the presidential limo

There are plans for him to attend the drivers' meeting as well

President Donald Trump is already set to start the engines at the NASCAR Daytona 500 car race, but according to a Fox News report he's also planning to do a lap around the course in the presidential limousine.

The president was announced to be the grand marshal to the opening ceremonies of the race on Sunday, and give the famous command, "gentleman, start your engines!"

The report that he will also take a lip in "the Beast" came from Fox News White House correspondent John Roberts, who said they had several sources for the story.

"Multiple Sources tell @FoxNews that @realDonaldTrump is planning to take a lap at the @DISupdates Daytona International Speedway in the 'Beast' presidential limo ahead of the Daytona 500," Roberts tweeted.

"It's not 100%, but that is the plan at the moment," he added.

The report created a stir on social media with supporters praising the president, but some critics booing the report.

WFLA-8 also reported that there are plans to have him attend the race drivers meeting.

"I'm told, I don't think it's official, but I'm told that he may be in the drivers meeting! So, that doesn't happen everyday! He doesn't come in to our sports meetings!" joked WFLA reporter Dan Lucas.

"That's kinda cool for these guys!" he added.

Trump will be the first sitting president to attend the Daytona 500 since former President George W. Bush in 2004.
