Video shows suspected cop killer shooting another police officer — but officer gets back on his feet and engages in shootout

A New Mexico police officer fired on an accused cop killer even after the suspect shot him during a heart-pumping pursuit in February.

The suspect, Omar Felix Cueva, was reportedly fleeing law enforcement during a pursuit after fatally shooting state trooper Darian Jarrott.

What are the details?

According to a Friday report from Fox News, newly released lapel camera footage showed Las Cruces Police Officer Adrian De La Garza performing a pit maneuver to stop Cueva from fleeing during a pursuit.

Video of the exchange, which was shared online, showed Cueva firing at De La Garza during the incident. De La Garza fell to the ground after being struck, but quickly jumped up and continued firing at Cueva until he reached the suspect's vehicle.

Cueva was killed during the shootout.

Afterward, De La Garza's fellow officers attempted first aid before emergency medical services arrived on the scene.

De La Garza was transported to a local hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.

What else?

Cueva was accused of shooting Jarrott "multiple times" with an AR-15-style rifle during the February traffic stop in El Paso, Texas.

KFOX-TV reported that Cueva shot Jarrott at least 11 times, including in the head.

Cueva was reportedly en route to a drug deal in Las Cruces, New Mexico, when he shot Jarrott during a traffic stop.

After the shooting, Cueva led officers on a 40-mile chase on Interstate 10.

According to a previous report from Fox News, "Less than a minute after Cueva fled the scene, a Homeland Security Investigations agent arrived on the scene and notified dispatch that Jarrott was down. A 40-mile chase ensued as officers from New Mexico State Police, the Cruces Police Department, the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Office, and U.S. Border Patrol pursued Cueva, exchanging gunfire along the way."

Cueva had a "violent criminal history," according to reports.

Jarrott left behind four children — including an unborn child — and more family following his untimely death. He was sworn in as a New Mexico state police officer in 2015.
