Video: Florida teen caught speeding at 132 MPH, officer tells heartbreaking story to parents as a grave warning

A Florida teen was pulled over by a police officer for speeding at 132 MPH. The police officer ordered the teen's father to pick up his son – and delivered an emotional warning.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office released a video this week of a traffic stop that happened earlier this year.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said on social media, "Earlier this year we caught a teenager driving 132 MPH on I-4!"

Viral video shows Orange County Corporal Greg Rittger pulling over a 16-year-old driver, who was speeding 132 MPH on Interstate 4 in Orlando.

The teen informs the officer that he is 16 years old and that the car – a Toyota Supra – belongs to his father.

Rittger orders the teen, "Call your father. I need him here now."

The teen calls his dad, then Rittger tells the father over the phone, "Dad, this is Cpl. Greg Rittger with the Orange County Sheriff's Office. I need you to come out here and pick up your son."

The teen's mother and father arrive at the traffic stop, and the officer tells them, "I just clocked your son at 132 MPH."

Rittger is seen on police bodycam video showing the parents the radar device showing 132 MPH.

The officer then tells the parents a heartbreaking story of another teen who was caught speeding.

Rittger explains that he stopped another teen driver for speeding years ago.

"I guess, personally, why I called you and made you come out here is I had a kid about eight, nine, 10 years ago that I stopped in a brand-new Mustang," Rittger says in the bodycam footage. "And his parents were going through a divorce. They bought him this car and all this. He was like 16."

The officer continues, “We go to court, both parents are there, their lawyer was there, and I talk to them. I said, 'Look, this kid, his car is too much for him, he's not going to handle it.'"

The parents promised to take the car away from their son.

Rittger then says, "About two months later, I saw the attorney again, and he says, 'Yeah, three weeks after that court date, he wrapped the car around a tree.' And now these parents don’t have a kid."

Rittger tells the teen that he would be in jail for excessive speeding if he were 18 years old or older.

Rittger issued a speeding ticket to the teen driver that requires a court appearance. The statutory fine is $1,104.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said, "Excessive speeding is a very real danger we work to combat every day."

The viral video has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times on social media after being released on Tuesday.
