Author explains why we don't need to fear robots taking over more and more jobs

Robots will take our jobs, and everything in our lives will include smart technology. But the future is looking brighter than the doomsday predictions would have you believe, Wired co-founder Kevin Kelly explained on Wednesday’s “The Morning Blaze with Doc Thompson.”

The near future includes “increased cognition in everything we make,” Kelly said. Products in the world of smart technology will include dolls that can talk back to you, shirts that can follow your movements to help you have better posture and smart shoes that can track how much you walk, he explained.

In his latest book, “The Inevitable: Understanding the 12 Technological Forces That Will Shape Our Future,” Kelly explored the technological trends that will revolutionize our everyday lives, including artificial intelligence and virtual reality.

Doc asked the big question: Will we be able to replace jobs that are taken over by automation? As more and more industries need fewer workers thanks to robots, people are alarmed that all low-education jobs will disappear.

The economy will “absolutely” replace the jobs taken by automation, Kelly asserted. He pointed out that people have survived disruptive technological change many times and noted several jobs that exist today that we couldn’t have imagined before the technology existed.
