Chris Salcedo welcomed Dr. Grazie Pozo Christie, policy advisor for The Catholic Association, to "The Chris Salcedo Show" Thursday to discuss President Donald Trump's visit with Pope Francis.
Dr. Pozo Christie said the pontiff indicated before the meeting that he would go in with an open mind and that Trump was touched by the reception he received.
She felt that Trump focused on the persecution of Catholics and other Christian denominations, particularly by Islamists, and that this is also a concern of His Holiness.
As to Pope Francis' seeming lack of understanding about capitalism and the free world, she pointed to his upbringing in Argentina. To them, capitalism seems to be more about cronyism and corruption instead of liberty and prosperity.
Chris wished that the papacy would acknowledge America's Constitution for recognizing rights as God given. The doctor responded that she hopes for an American pope someday who understands that the United States is a "shining city on a hill that calls to the whole world [to] live in freedom and brotherhood."
She praised Pope Francis for opening doors for the church because he "makes everybody melt." She also said "The Holy Spirit is working with him and we have to trust that we're all going to the right place."
