Dr. Jorge Rodriguez fires back against the anti-vaccine camp

Frequent guest Dr. Jorge Rodriguez call in to Pure Opelka to discuss the continued threat of viruses like HIV and Zika, especially to newborns and pregnant women. Over the past few years, these looming public health crises have been amplified by the slow spread of anti-vaccination propaganda. Dr. Jorge points out that a recent survey at a large public university in the South indicated that fully half of the student body was  insufficiently immunized.

"50% of the student body opted out and were granted waivers from immunization," Dr. Jorge explains. "And to me, that's because of this illogical fear that we now have of vaccines. To me, it's just — I mean, I just get incredulous every time we have to talk about this."

"This is the blow-back from the anti-vaxxers," Mike responds. "This is what happens when people resist science on vaccines, and we now end up with a spike in mumps transmission rates."
