Liberals call for Missy Elliot statue in wake of torn down Confederate monuments
August 24, 2017
Following a violent stream of protests over Confederate monuments around the nation, thousands have signed a petition to replace a Confederate statue with a statue of rapper Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliot. The proposed location for the rapper’s statue is in Portsmouth, Virginia, the rapper’s hometown.
The Change.org petition was created by Nathan Coflin and has garnered over 30,000 signatures, including a signature from the rapper herself.
Protesters and counter protesters from around the nation continue to march for and against the monuments. Vandals continue to damage Confederate monuments and anything they deem to be racist as well.
Universities and cities, including the University of Texas at Austin, have chosen to remove Confederate statues to avoid an outbreak of violence seen in Charlottesville, Virginia.
ESPN reporter, Robert Lee, an Asian American, was recently pulled from a broadcast simply because his name is too similar to "Robert E. Lee's."
Today on “Pat & Stu” the guys discussed the uptick in disdain for Confederate monuments across the country and the unlikely possibility of a Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliot statue.
