Listen: Here's how 'old country' immigrants shaped America

Have you ever eaten egg cheese? How about hard-boiled scrambled eggs? On “40 Acres and a Fool,” Miss E and Cam Edwards share memories and recipes from Miss E’s late Great Aunt Pearl who made Sirecz, a Slovak Easter dish made with eggs and milk from the “old country.”

“She was one of those people, and she lived in a part of this country that still had the old ways,” Cam said of Great Aunt Pearl. “But she was also all American.”

Miss E tearfully reminisced about her beloved aunt who taught her so much about gardening, farming, and keeping the family’s culture and traditions alive. “She was the best aunt to all of the children in our family,” she added.
