Listen: Pierogies, fajitas, pho: Are these the best foods on the planet?
October 18, 2017
CNN Travel has a list of the world’s 50 best foods that includes everything from American buttered popcorn to Filipino lechon to Eastern European pierogies to hummus from the Middle East.
Is your favorite on the list? And are potato chips British or American in origin? Doc and Kal talked about foods from around the world with celebrity chef Patrick Mosher on today’s show.
Here are some of the lesser-known but delicious-sounding foods on CNN Travel’s list:
- Bunny chow, a South African street food that does not contain bunnies, just spicy curry in white bread
- Buttered toast with marmite, a yeast extract spread that people tend to love or hate
- Som tam, a traditional Thai salad made with pounded garlic and chilies as well as dried shrimp, peanuts, string beans, lime juice and other ingredients
- Poke, a raw fish salad that’s served as an appetizer in Hawaii
