New student advocacy group fights back against Title IX abuse on college campuses

This week Mike Opelka has focused on Title IX abuses in college campuses across the United States. The 1972 law was intended to give female students equal educational and athletic opportunities. It is now being increasingly used by young women to serve personal agendas against students.

Today on "Pure Opelka," Mike welcomed Cynthia Garrett of Families Advocating for Campus Equality, or FACE. The group was formed as a resource for young men being denied due process on college campuses. When their sons are falsely accused of sexual misconduct under Title IX, parents have had nowhere to turn to defend them.

Garrett said FACE has received 80 case inquiries this year alone. Nearly every false accusation was spawned by a break up or refusal to date. Sometimes a religiously restrictive parent finds out about a boyfriend and the girl panics, or she is failing classes and needs an excuse.

Allegations are "buried in this crazy campus climate where anything is an assault," Garrett said. The young women believe from friends or administration "that what they've experienced is actionable," even though it would not be deemed assault under criminal law. She claims colleges have become "little fiefdoms" with their own rules.
