Salcedo: If you're looking for 'Nixonian,' look at the IRS being weaponized
May 18, 2017
Today on "The Chris Salcedo Show," Chris Salcedo was flabbergasted when former director of national intelligence James Clapper told CNN's Jake Tapper that the United States was under threat externally and internally from President Donald Trump.
A special prosecutor, Robert Mueller, was appointed today to investigate allegations that the president colluded with Russia during the 2016 election.
In response, Chris went to a Cato Institute report of various ways former president Barack Obama violated the Constitution during his terms in the White House. Since many Democrats in government and the media have used the term "Nixonian" to describe Trump as of late, Chris looked at something truly Nixonian: weaponizing the Internal Revenue Service against political opponents.
In 2010 the IRS issued a BOLO for organizations with the following key words, according to CATO: "'Tea Party,' 'Patriots,' and 'Israel'" and "subjects such as government spending, debt, or taxes; and activities such as criticizing the government, educating about the Constitution, or challenging Obamacare."
"BOLO" is a law enforcement term that stands for "be on the look-out" and is usually only used when searching for criminal suspects.
Chris was astounded that Clapper or anyone would "have the temerity to compare President Trump to Nixon" when nobody to date has been held criminally accountable for using the IRS in retribution against political opponents.
