Thomas Jefferson was the original abolitionist

The President of the University of Virginia, which was famously founded by Thomas Jefferson, recently wrote an open letter to the school's students and faculty regarding Donald Trump's electoral victory. He closed his letter with a quote from Jefferson himself, which caused a backlash on campus in the form of a petition from students and faculty offended by Jefferson's ownership of slaves and supposedly racist beliefs, which gained over 500 signatures.

Mike Slater refuses to allow these unfounded accusations to go unchallenged; utilizing points raised by UVA law professor Robert Turner, Mike provides ample evidence that Jefferson was adamantly opposed to slavery and attempted throughout his life to abolish the practice in the young United States. He also examines why the Left is so preoccupied with undermining Jefferson's legacy.

"It's a classic Leftist attack, right?" Mike points out. "Attack the messenger. They can't attack the merits of the Constitution or of the Declaration. They can't argue with what our Founding Fathers created for us. So they've got to go and try to discredit them as humans. Because they think that if they can convince people that Thomas Jefferson is a racist, then that undermines the entire Constitution itself."

Listen live to The Mike Slater Show every Saturday from 3–6pm ET, only on TheBlaze Radio Network.
