SHOCKED FACE: Ocasio-Cortez misread/misinterpreted Article II Section V of the US Constitution

Monday, Pat Gray highlighted New York Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez after a gross misquote that she made during a photo shoot for Politico at Harvard last week.

Politico reported that Ocasio-Cortez, 29, during a candid conversation with her photographer, discussed a running joke she has with fellow Dems to force Republicans to pass the Equal Rights Amendment.

The conversation went like this

"You can't even run for president for another six years," the photographer said to Ocasio-Cortez, adding that the age requirement is 35.

"No, not for a long time. Thank God," she said.

"Although we've been joking that because the Equal Rights Amendment hasn't been passed yet, the Constitution technically says he cannot run unless he's 35. ... So what we'll do is we'll force the Republican Party to pass the Equal Rights Amendment by threatening to run for president."

"That is awesome. All the people who say a literal interpretation of the Constitution is the only thing you should be paying attention to," the photographer said.

"Exactly, all those Constitutionalists, I will keep vigilance," Ocasio-Cortez replied.

Reality

Article II section V of the U.S. Constitution states "any Person," not "he":

No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

The takeaway

Bewildered, Pat reread the Politico report and clarified that what the 29-year-old from the Bronx was trying to say is that she misread the Constitution, adding that Ocasio-Cortez is "butt-stupid."
