Addison Woosley, 13, spoke out during a Raleigh, North Carolina, city council meeting Tuesday to call for an end to abortion. Her moving plea to make Raleigh a "sanctuary city for the unborn" included a comparison between the evils of abortion and slavery. Adults in the audience erupted into a frightening cacophony of shouts and jeers.
On Friday's radio program, Glenn Beck and Pat Gray reacted to the way Addison was treated by a roomful of adults who didn't hesitate to shout down a young girl because they didn't agree with her.
"She [Addison] speaks out on abortion being murder, and you start to fear for her life being in the room," Pat said.
Glenn played an audio of Addison's speech.
"Abortion should be illegal because it is murder. The definition of murder is the killing of one human being by another," Addison said. "There's no way around it. Abortion is murder. So, why is it if an infant is destroyed before birth, there is no problem, but if killed after birth, it's considered a brutal murder?"
At this point, angry shouting can be heard from the audience, but Addison presses on.
"Abortion reminds me of slavery. Owners said that their slaves were their property and that they could do whatever they wanted with them, just how moms say about their babies," she continued. "My hope is that in a few years we will look back at abortion and think, 'That was so cruel. I can't believe we did that.' Just how we all look back at slavery."
As Addison speaks, the shouting gets increasingly louder until the teen's voice is drown out altogether. A video of the council meeting, which you can see here, shows the girl looking understandably frightened as she wraps up her speech.
Glenn said the situation made him think of Charles Sumner, the Republican senator from Massachusetts who was caned nearly to death by Rep. Preston Brooks (D-S.C.) in retaliation for his 1856 speech against slavery, which he called "the flash-point of civil war in America."
