Casino refuses to pay the largest slot machine win in U.S. history

New Yorker Katrina Bookman is suing the Resort World Casino after they refused to cash her ticket for $42,949,672. The casino says the machine simply malfunctioned because it’s only supposed to award people a maximum of $6,500.

All machines at the casino have a disclaimer that states, “Malfunctions void all pays and plays.” The casino offered her a free steak dinner and sent her on her way.

Her attorney, Alan Ripka, told CNNMoney, "You can't claim a machine is broken because you want it to be broken. Does that mean it wasn't inspected? Does it mean it wasn't maintained?"

The New York State Gaming Commission pulled the machine to have it fixed, and it is now back out in the casino. However, they say they can only award her the actual winnings of $2.25, printed by the machine.
