John Garnet Carter, an American inventor and entrepreneur in the Roaring Twenties, decided to build his wife a golf course near Chattanooga, Tennessee — but his impatience with the construction of the project gave the world something even better! Miniature golf, known back then as "Tom Thumb Golf," quickly swept the nation and even made its way across the pond to Europe. Leave it to an American businessman with a lack of patience to give the world something it didn't even know it wanted!
