‘Like in the movies’: Man caught trying to steal police license plate next decided to do this
September 08, 2017
A man was arrested last month in West Palm Beach after trying to steal the license plate off a police vehicle. At the time, three detectives were sitting inside conducting surveillance, the Palm Beach Post reported.
Wesley J. Kelley, who has been charged with burglary, assault on an officer, fleeing and eluding police and on other counts, allegedly attempted to detach the license plate from the patrol car, according to the police report. The suspect apologized after being confronted and jumped into a stolen vehicle, started driving and almost hit another detective, then crashed through a chain link fence. The police report said that “he always wanted to try ramming a gate with a car to see if it would bust open like in the movies.”
Doc Thompson had the story as a “Friday leftover” on “The Morning Blaze with Doc Thompson.” He and Brandon Morse talked about some favorite movie scenes with cars slamming through fences, and Doc remembered a story about a man who made the mistake of thinking a chain link fence could hold back an elephant.
“I feel like that’s just common sense … don’t try to rob cops,” Brandon said of the attempted burglary.
“This is the reason we offer the pro criminal tips,” Doc joked. “Because if you’re going to do something, do it right. Be the best at it.”
