MISSION ACCOMPLISHED': Here's what the Syrian airstrikes actually accomplished

The United States, France and Britain launched airstrikes Friday night on three Syrian chemical weapons facilities in response to the chemical attack on civilians in Douma allegedly been carried out by President Bashar al-Assad's regime.

President Donald Trump tweeted Saturday: “A perfectly executed strike last night. Thank you to France and the United Kingdom for their wisdom and the power of their fine Military. Could not have had a better result. Mission Accomplished!”

But the turmoil Syria is far from over. Literally within hours of the strike, Syrians loyal to Assad were openly celebrating their president's triumph (he was, after all, still the president) and by Sunday Assad's forces had resumed their attacks on civilians -- this time with conventional weapons instead of chemical.

Freedom is contagious and there is a captive audience of millions upon millions in Russia and China

Meanwhile Russia, which has insisted all along that there was never any attack in Douma and accused the West of “staging” the horrific event, have "warned that such actions will not be left without consequences."

Statement by the Ambassador Antonov on the strikes on #Syria:

A pre-designed scenario is being implemented. Again, we are being threatened. We warned that such actions will not be left without consequences.

China's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying also condemned the airstrikes, saying, "Any unilateral military action bypassing the [United Nations] ... violates the principles of international law and the basic norms governing international relations, and will further complicate the Syrian issue."

We oppose the use of force in international relations and call for respect for other countries’ sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. Any unilateral military action bypassing the [United Nations] Security Council runs contrary to the purpose and principles of the UN Charter and violates the principles of international law and the basic norms governing international relations, and will further complicate the Syrian issue.

China urges the relevant parties to return to the framework of international law and resolve the issue through dialogue and negotiation.

So exactly what is America's 'mission' when it come to Syria?

On today's show, Glenn Beck breaks down the key developments of the crisis in Syria, and explains why China and Russia are so concerned about the outcome of Assad's ruthless regime.

"Syria is important because of the symbol it represents to the world's leading powers," explained Glenn. "Countries like Russia and China want the world, especially their own people, to see that authoritarian governments are legitimate and here to stay. If mass public uprisings can spring up, gain international backing, and topple the Syrian regime, what's to stop that idea from happening in Moscow? Beijing? Iran? Freedom is contagious and there is a captive audience of millions upon millions in Russia and China paying attention."
