Now that someone has gone to prison for text messages, where will the slippery slope lead?

Michelle Carter, 20, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to prison for her part in encouraging her boyfriend Conrad Roy III to kill himself, documented in their text message history. Reason Magazine's Robby Soave joined the guys on “Pat & Stu” today to parse the case and explain why it sets a bad precedent for free speech.

Soave said the result of this case essentially establishes that "her words killed him." It might have been better to punish her for another crime associated with Roy's death.

Following a wide causal chain, one could blame the medication Carter was taking for her cruel words, and the doctor who prescribed them. "Where does it end?" he asked.
