Progressives are trying to stop the largest conservative media merger over favorable Trump coverage

Sinclair Broadcast Group and Tribune Media Co. are being urged by attorneys in four states -- Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island -- to stop the merger of the two conservative media giants out of fear that it "will decrease consumer choices and voices in the marketplace."

One complaint, in particular, is the accusation that Sinclair gave favorable coverage to Donald Trump's campaign during the 2016 election, according to USA Today.

Opponents -- which includes 49 Democrats in the U.S. House of Representative -- of the merger asserted this move would be detrimental to consumers due to the company's "cozy" relationship with the current Administration.

According to USA Today's article, The New York Times ran a piece titled "How a Conservative TV Giant is Ridding itself of Regulation" which essentially chronicled the details and concerns coming from progressives about the merger.

The most ironic comment of all found in the Times' piece was by Jill Geisler, the former vice president for news at Tribune-owned WITI in Milwaukee who is watching the merger closely.

“Will Sinclair be a responsible broadcaster of the news or a creator of the largest programmer of propaganda?” The irony of that comment is astounding. Pat and a caller couldn't believe the audacity of those who oppose this merger solely for it being a conservative one.
