This entrepreneur is using athlete-level nutrition to help his daughter and other sick kids

“Kate Farms was a company I started to save my daughter’s life.”

Dad and entrepreneur Richard Laver joined “The Morning Blaze with Doc Thompson” in studio Wednesday to talk about how his family’s struggle led him to create a business that makes people’s lives better.

His daughter, Kate, lives with cerebral palsy, and she was failing to thrive at 4 years old. He and his wife started Kate’s Farms after developing a nutrient-rich, all-natural shake formula that is rich in the proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals their daughter needs.

“She was on formulas like Ensure, and all the inflammation from the dairy and chemicals was making her sick,” Laver said, explaining how his background as a former pro athlete influenced his push for bringing the kind of nutrition boost that athletes get in their diet.

Richard and Michelle Laver discovered along the way that their shake formula helped not only their daughter, who is now a happy 10-year-old, but also seniors, other sick kids and more people struggling to get enough nutrition in their diets.

“I understood nutrition was key, and with Kate, I couldn’t understand why … our sickest people were having access to nutrition that I felt could be a lot better,” he said.
