America has a lot of great things going for it, but when it comes to food it’s a bit like a spoiled child who throws a monumental temper tantrum anytime it doesn’t get what it wants. As a result, Americans are throwing away a lot of consumable food.
Why? Research suggests that when it comes to fruits and vegetables, much of what is considered edible never even makes it out of the fields simply because it doesn’t meet the cosmetic standards of retailers and consumers. No one wants the apple that has the bruise on it, right? That same attitude is prevalent in American homes, despite the fact that 1 in 6 people in America are not sure where their next meal is coming from.
