Watch: Here’s what you should know about Trump’s decision on Jerusalem

What’s happening?

President Donald Trump is expected to make a formal recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel today. The move is part of the plan to shift the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and it’s a major reversal from decades' worth of American foreign policy.

Trump is hardly the first U.S. president to try to broker a resolution between Jerusalem and Palestine.

Remind me why Jerusalem is a source of conflict:

Israelis and Palestinians have long been involved in one of the biggest conflicts in history. Jerusalem is a key site for both groups, with the Palestinians viewing the city as the capital of a future Palestinian state and Israel claiming the Old City as the holiest site in Judaism.

Glenn’s take:

It’s high time that Israel’s capital was recognized as its capital, but most of the world still has a problem with it. Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem will be akin to standing up to a bully.

“Logistically, it’s a move that makes sense,” Glenn said. “It also is conveniently the truth.”
