Watch: Update on the Dem IT aide scandal - second wife 'was kept like a slave

Just when you thought the case of the Wasserman Schultz IT aide, Imran Awan, could not get any more bizarre … well, you have got to hear this latest development.

What now?

As you may recall, Awan’s wife, Hina Alvi, left for Pakistan in March, well before her husband’s July arrest and subsequent indictment. (Read the story here.) Alvi has since been indicted as well but it was generally assumed that she would not likely return to the US to face the charges. In fact, Alvi did return, but with a lawsuit of her own bringing charges of fraud against her husband.

What did she say?

Alvi claimed that Awan “threatened the complainant [herself] of dire consequences, he also threatened to harm the lives of family of the complainant if she intervenes.”

But that’s not the weirdest part. Alvi also claimed, “My husband Imran Awan son of Muhammad Ashraf Awan, committed fraud along with offence of polygamy.”

Excuse me?

That’s right. Imran Awan had a second wife in Virginia. Read more below:

Respondent has contract a second marriage on 17-08-2015 with one Mst. Sumaira Shehzadi alias Sumaira Siddique… without obtaining prior permission. Rather he mentioned himself as bachelor in… marriage certificate, he falsely declared that he has no wife or biological children at the time of contracting second marriage. This act of the respondent was shocking for the complainant and she asked the respondent about his second marriage on which he became furious while admitting the same and said he has no need to obtain permission from the complainant…

He further said furiously that the complainant has no right or power to restrain him from second and even third marriage. Furthermore, the respondent threatened the complainant of dire consequences, he also threatened to harm the lives of family of the complainant if she intervenes into the affairs of the respondent.

And it gets even weirder. “They have police reports here in Virginia, the second wife is in Virginia too, and she filed police reports saying she was kept like a slave,” said Investigative reporter, Luke Rosiak on “Dana” today. Lawrence Jones, who was filling in for Dana Loesch, could only shake his head in wonder. We were all doing the same.
