Hillary Clinton defends London mayor after Trump criticism: 'Not the time to ... incite fear

Hillary Clinton defended London mayor Sadiq Khan on Monday after President Donald Trump tweeted a criticism directed at Khan for the way he responded to the weekend terrorist attack in Britain.

After Khan told citizens of the city that they should not be alarmed by increased law enforcement presence, Trump tweeted, “At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is ‘no reason to be alarmed!'”

Trump later doubled down on his remarks and followed his original tweet reaffirming his first.

"Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his ‘no reason to be alarmed’ statement. MSM is working hard to sell it!” he wrote.

The Washington Examiner reported that Clinton called for solidarity and understanding worldwide in the wake of the latest London attack.

“This is a time for us to reach out to the world, to understand more about what is happening. Not just in our own country, but indeed across the globe,” she said.

While attending a fundraiser for Rep. Elijah Cummings' (D-Md.) youth program, she added, “It is time for steady, determined leadership like we are seeing from London’s mayor and local authorities.”

Though Clinton did not name Trump particularly, her comments seemed to reference the president's tweets.

“This is not the time to lash out, to incite fear, and use trash talk and terror for political gain,” Clinton said.

Less than two weeks after a suicide bomber killed 22 and injured scores more at an Ariana Grade concert in Manchester, Islamic terrorists killed seven and injured another 48 people during an attack on London Bridge.

Three terrorists drove a van into pedestrians on the bridge and after striking those on foot, exited the vehicle and began stabbing patrons at nearby facilities in the Borough Market area, a location rife with restaurants and bars.

As the terrorists attacked, eyewitnesses claimed that the terrorists shouted “This is for Allah.”

The three attackers were shot and killed eight minutes after embarking on their attack.
