Poll shows overwhelming number of college professors 'confident' that Trump will be impeached

An overwhelming majority of university professors expect that President Donald Trump will be impeached, according to a poll released last week by Faculty Row, a leading collaborative network of the nation's top educators and researchers.

Nearly two thirds of professors — 63 percent — believe Trump will be impeached during the first term of his presidency. Of the 63 percent who were confident Trump would be impeached, 33 percent believe the impeachment will take place within six months, while 34 percent said it would happen in the next 6 to 12 months.

Professor of Political Science at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, and co-creator of the survey David Schultz said many of the professors held the belief specifically because of the ongoing investigation into whether Russia had any collusion with Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.

"Across a wide range of disciplines, there is a belief among many university faculty that President Trump’s performance in office, especially as it relates to alleged connections with the Russian government, is increasingly making it more and more likely that he will be impeached," Schultz said. "What is remarkable is that the survey was done even before the more recent and damaging allegations came to light about Trump, Jared Kushner, and other members of his administration, suggesting that the predication of impeachment might be even greater now among faculty."

The 600 respondents were polled between May 17-25.

An increasing number of Americans believe Trump should be impeached, with a recent POLITICO/Morning Consult poll showing 43 percent of registered voters want Congress to begin impeachment proceedings.
