Don Blankenship vs. Evan Jenkins vs. Patrick Morrisey: LIVE West Virginia primary election results
May 08, 2018
Three Republican candidates are facing off tonight for the chance to challenge Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., one of the most vulnerable Democrats running for re-election in 2018.
Don Blankenship, who served one year in prison on charges related to a mine disaster that killed 29 while he was CEO of the company, is the chaos agent in the race, vigorously campaigning against "Cocaine Mitch" McConnell and making controversial, racially suggestive comments to antagonize the "swamp captain" majority leader of the U.S. Senate. Conservative organizations have lined up behind state Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, while Rep. Evan Jenkins, R-W.Va., is the explicitly pro-McConnell establishment candidate.
Bo Copely, Jack Newbrough, and Thomas Willis are also running.
West Virginia has a closed primary, meaning that voters must be registered party members to vote in a party primary. The polls close at 7:30 p.m. ET.
