Ellison, bogged down by abuse allegations and relationship with Farrakhan, sees poll numbers tank

Things aren’t looking too good for the candidacy of Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., for attorney general right now.

A recent poll conducted among 800 likely Minnesota voters shows the DNC vice chair trailing 7 points behind his Republican challenger, constitutional lawyer Doug Wardlow. This is a marked shift from a mid-September poll showing the Democrat with a 5-point advantage in the race.

The most recent poll was conducted October 15-17 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent, leaving Wardlow’s newfound lead outside the margin.

The nosedive comes after a months of political turmoil for Ellison’s campaign after Karen Monahan, the candidate’s ex-girlfriend, and her adult son accused him of domestic abuse.

During the U.S. Senate’s vicious debate about the allegations against now-Justice Brett Kavanaugh, the allegations against Ellison became a prominent counterexample Republicans used to respond to the Left’s calls that Kavanaugh's accuser ought to be believed despite a lack corroborating evidence.

Also making things worse for Ellison’s chances is a renewed controversy over his relationship with notorious anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan. During a recent debate, Ellison said that Farrakan — whom he has since tried to distance himself from — had “something to offer” in the early 1990s. As a reminder, Farrakhan praised Hitler as a “very great man” in 1984.
