Glaringly absent from Flynn plea: Rhymes with ‘Mussian follusion’

President Trump’s former national security advisor, Mike Flynn, pleaded guilty on Friday to “willfully and knowingly” making “false, fictitious and fraudulent statements” to the FBI about conversations he had with Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak during Trump’s presidential transition.

While Mueller’s investigation hasn’t ended, Flynn’s guilty plea of lying to the FBI certainly does not constitute “collusion” with the Russians (which was the original accusation). You can’t collude to win an election after you’ve already won, and the conversation under suspicion happened after Trump defeated Mrs. Clinton.

As a member of Trump’s presidential transition team, Flynn is said to have signaled to the Kremlin that Russia could expect relief from sanctions being imposed by the outgoing Obama administration in its final months. Flynn lied to Mike Pence about whether he had in fact had those conversations and was consequently asked to resign from the Trump administration. Flynn told that same lie to the FBI, which is what landed him in hot water.

It is not illegal to discuss future policies with the Russians as a member of Trump’s transition team. The illegal act was lying about it.

It’s been a year of a constant and determined witch-hunt to prove Hillary Clinton’s presidency was stolen by Trump, who supposedly worked with the Russians to meddle in our elections. And still there has not been a single shred of evidence for this. Every time the Mueller investigation levels charges that aren’t collusion, it weakens the whole probe.

The fact that there is zero Russian collusion in this case doesn’t stop the Left from celebrating:

And yet, they really don’t have anything to celebrate if their objective is to find proof of Russian collusion, because there hasn’t been any. All they have are hopes that Flynn has agreed to work with Mueller and testify against Trump, his staff, and his family with some damning evidence.

Remember, that was also their hope when Paul Manafort was arrested on charges that also had nothing to do with Russia collusion. And the anti-Trump brigade is still eagerly waiting for those bombshells as well. So in the meantime, they’ll munch on this Flynn nothingburger to distract from the fact that there is still no evidence of Trump colluding with Russia.
